{"id":389,"date":"2015-12-03T12:41:13","date_gmt":"2015-12-03T17:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/?p=389"},"modified":"2015-12-03T14:22:48","modified_gmt":"2015-12-03T19:22:48","slug":"memorabilia-palisades-the-x-files-palz-figures-series-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/?p=389","title":{"rendered":"[Memorabilia] Palisades \u2013 The X-Files PALz Figures &#8211; Series 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2005, the now-defunct Palisades Toys released two series\u00a0of The X-Files &#8220;PALz&#8221; mini figures. \u00a0The PALz figures were articulated block figures similar to the Minimates line, which the PALz figures were originally a derivative of, separating into its own line once a licensing deal between Palisades and Art Asylum fell apart. \u00a0(Interestingly enough, ten years later, Art Asylum finally plans to release\u00a0The X-Files Minimates in a few months to correspond with the 2016 X-Files limited series.) \u00a0Three series of the X-Files PALz figures were said to be designed, however, only two were released before Palisades went under. \u00a0Despite that, the two series that \u00a0were released still represent the most variety of any of the X-Files toy lines to date, with a combined 16 characters represented, spanning mythology and MOTW alike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_series1_mulderscully.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-439\" src=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_series1_mulderscully.png\" alt=\"palz_series1_mulderscully\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_series1_mulderscully.png 800w, http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_series1_mulderscully-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The major difference between the two series that were released was the way they were packaged. \u00a0The first series was released on nicely-designed blister cards, whereas the second series was released as blind-packaged boxes &#8212; a decision that greatly upset collectors at the time, especially in North America where blind-packaged figures weren&#8217;t as common or popular as they were in some other markets, such as Japan.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_444\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 810px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_packaging_comparison.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-444 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_packaging_comparison.png\" alt=\"PALz packaging comparison\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_packaging_comparison.png 800w, http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/palz_packaging_comparison-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">PALz Series 1 vs. Series 2 packaging.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The figures were available from specialty retailers both in stores (Sam Goody, Suncoast, Media Play) and online (Entertainment Earth, ToyWiz). \u00a0The blister packaging of Series 1 seemed to be a bit more popular with North American retailers, so this series may be slightly more common.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_554\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 810px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/alien_front_back.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-554 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/alien_front_back.png\" alt=\"Front and back of packaging.\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/alien_front_back.png 800w, http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/alien_front_back-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Front and back of Series 1 packaging. Full credits for the figures&#8217; production team are listed on the back of the box, which is pretty\u00a0cool.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite their simple, playful look, adult collectors were definitely the target audience for this line. \u00a0It was released a few years after the series ended and didn&#8217;t shy away from some of the darker elements of the show. \u00a0Palisades was a favorite among collectors due to\u00a0their dedication to attention to detail in\u00a0their licenses and reception\u00a0to feedback from their fanbase. \u00a0This attention to detail was reflected in the characters selected, from MOTW fan-favorites to recurring secondary characters often ignored in merchandising such as\u00a0Frohike and Deep Throat, and the accessories included, such as Donnie Pfaster&#8217;s creepy lock of hair and shampoo bottle and the Flukeman&#8217;s porta potty.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_599\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 810px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/series1_ms_palz_small.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-599 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/series1_ms_palz_small.png\" alt=\"PALz Series 1 Scully and Mulder figures\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/series1_ms_palz_small.png 800w, http:\/\/x-files.rainknight.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/series1_ms_palz_small-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Each figure came with a number of relevant accessories. Pictured here are the standard versions of the Scully and Mulder figures. They both come with their badge, gun, cell phone, and a flashlight. Scully also comes with a computer, and Mulder comes with a copy of Jose Chung&#8217;s <em>From Outer Space<\/em>. Each figure also comes with an X-File. Here, Scully has her own X-File, and Mulder&#8217;s X-File is based on the episode <em>Anasazi<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the time, the prices of the PALz line\u00a0were considered a little\u00a0on the high end for\u00a0mini figures (with a suggested retail price of US $6.99 each), though they were still the more affordable choice compared to the contemporary line of X-Files 12&#8243; Special Agent Fox Mulder (x3)<br \/>\n&#8211; Special Agent Dana Scully (x3)<br \/>\n&#8211; Flukeman (x3)<br \/>\n&#8211; The Conundrum (x3)<br \/>\n&#8211; Gray Alien (x3)<br \/>\n&#8211; Donnie Pfaster (x2)<br \/>\n&#8211; Melvin Frohike (x2)<br \/>\n&#8211; Deep Throat (x2)<br \/>\n&#8211; Mulder Repaint Chase &#8220;Special Agent Fox Mulder (Man in Black Variant)&#8221; (x1)<br \/>\n&#8211; Scully Repaint Chase &#8220;Special Agent Dana Scully (Captive)&#8221;
